Commentaries

Victoria's Notes:

• I played with a girl named Devon and a boy named Jake both rounds.
• I did really good on #16 and got a "3" on it the second round.
• Devon twisted her ankle after the first round but was still able to play.
• We had pizza for lunch.
• I came in 1st place and won a wooden trophy. I won the longest drive contest and got a stuffed teddy bear and a shirt from the hole that we sponsored.

Christian's Notes:

• I got a good shot on #8 and I got a bad shot on #16.
• I liked the part when it was over and I was practicing on #7 and I got a "2" on it.
• I played with Britain & Grayson the first round. The second round I played with Cole & Zack. I liked playing with them.
• I acted up a little bit on #13.

Bob's Notes:

We've been hoping for a good, local children's tournament for a long time and this one was even better than expected. The event had great participation, ran smoothly, and was very well received by all.

I was caddying for Christian both rounds so didn't spend much time with Debbie or Victoria, but both of them seem to have a wonderful time. Christian is still an incredible player (for any age), but it is nearly impossible to keep him focused on anything for long. He had never had a round above 80 at Elon shorts before today. Part of the reason for his higher-than-normal scores was behaving himself around other children, but his putting was way off today as well. Several times he would drive within 30 feet of the target, then spend 6 shots to get it in. Normally, he has a very solid putt and his scores are significantly better because of it.

Despite the putting woes, Christian still had some incredible shots and amazed those around him. He was first to throw on our card in round 1 and he literally threw his first shot of the tournament within 3 feet of the basket for a drop-in birdie on hole #15. Later the first round, he also birdied hole #11. Hole #7 is a short, open shot than Christian normally does well on. He putted poorly both rounds on it today though, but then followed it up with an easy "2" for an audience after the tournament was over.

This was a great tournament and we were thankful to be a part of it. We were also happy to be one of the sponsors for this tournament, donating "longest drive" goodie bags for each of the 10 divisions.

Debbie's Notes:

What a wonderful event. Steve Lambert did an excellent job at putting this tournament on. I am so glad I got to be a part of it. Christian and Victoria were both competing. Victoria was all by herself this time. Bob was caddying for Christian and I was running the longest drive contest on hole 13. Victoria won and Christian came in 2nd. Not bad for a 5 year old in a 7-8 yr old division. I am so proud of both of them. There were 64 children competing and they were all awesome. It was so neat getting to watch them all play through twice. We have some talented kids in the Charlotte area.
