I loved Magnolia! It was really fun. I did an awesome job until
the very end. The 1st round I got a 78. The 2nd round I fot a
77 with my good dad caddying my bag for the 2nd round.
I liked meeting my friend Kyra from Florida. She was in 2nd until
the very end. I slipped away and I won 2nd.
They also had a Kan Jam tournament where you go against others.
It was October 12-13th and it was a great turn out. They even
had karaoke night! Fun, fun, and fun.
Up until September, we were still wrestling with who was going
to go to Magnolia this year and who was staying home to compete
in the Charlotte Junior's tournament. I don't know why the local
junior TD has scheduled the children's event for the same date
as Magnolia (a Charlotte Women's favorite) for the past 2 years,
but it has made a difficult choice for us both years. Magnolia
has become more than just a tournament for us though... it has
become a Scott family tradition. So, for the 4th year in a row,
the Scotts went to the International Disc Golf Center in Appling,
GA.
For the most part, Christian and I just tried to stay out of
the girl's way, though we did have several opportunities to help
the tournament crew with various tasks. When the girls were playing
their rounds, we would play Kan Jam, cornhole, Hott Shott, or
putt. Mostly it was just Christian though as my hip was really
bothering me to the point where standing/walking was really painful.
Consequently we didn't play a round on the other courses as we
did the previous year, but we did make several trips to the lake
area.
Other than the tournament, my two favorite parts of Magnolia
weekend are the Mexican food outing and the random draw tournament.
It nearly killed me that I couldn't play in the tournament this
year, but the pain was so bad that my game was dismal, which seemed
really unfair to any potential partner. The mexican dinner was
awesome as always though!
Despite the hip pain, I did manage to caddy for Victoria for
her second round. I enjoyed being with the girls and watching
Victoria play so well. I don't know if I could have helped with
Victoria's 3rd round meltdown if I was there or not. She said
she was just tired from the day/night before. The loss of a solid
1st place lead didn't seem to bother Victoria much at all though;
and it probably made a tremendous difference to Kyra who was obviously
very excited with the come from behind victory. I'd heard she
was pretty much uninterested in disc golf beforehand... I wouldn't
be surprised if she is quite the fan now.
As always, the camping, atmosphere, food, and people were great
(and I even tolerated the Karaoke from a distance). This is an
awesome tournament/event.
