Commentaries
Bob's Notes:
- It was a bit of a surprise to find out that Debbie & Victoria both had to play the Advanced course as other participants did not show up. The rec course at this site is a good challenge for most players, but the advanced is really challenging. The 2nd round was an alternate version of the course with a jaw-dropping par 70 difficulty (among the toughest in the world for those who don't know).
- Shawn (Rec) and Mitch (Jr <16 Boys) were also on the card with Debbie & Victoria for round 1. (Mitch for Rd 2 as well)
- Both rounds took an unbelieveable 4 hours to play each! The first round had unfamiliar paths, lost discs, and 4 players on the card. The second round didn't have any of those (only 3 players), but our group was behind the pros who literally took 20+ minutes to play several holes... it was unreal.
- Bob & Victoria wandered off for a bit after waiting an hour after our final card was turned in. No sooner than we had stopped to look at a water fountain & pond down the street, that the CTP contest had begun so Deb had to call us back (literally, by cell phone).
- We went out to eat at the Flying Burito in Chapel Hill later that evening with some dear friends. Victoria drew a picture of the trophy & discs she'd won on her placemat.
- I couldn't be more proud of my girls and their performance today in this incredibly challenging environment. Not only did they both score well on this very tough course, but they both had physical challenges that made walking a lot even more difficult than normal. I was worn out just caddying, but neither Debbie nor Victoria complained about the obstacles... they just kept on playing. Well done girls!
Victoria's Notes:
- I got a trophy & 3 new discs.
- It was fun!
- I got to go out to Hardees for lunch.
- There were some boys there that played too.
- We got to spend the night with family the night before.
Debbie's Notes:
- My initial impression of the course was that it was very difficult as women & juniors had to play the advanced course instead of the rec course which we had practiced. Despite that, my drives were good (tee drives & fairway drives). My longer range putting could have been much better.
- Round 2 they moved baskets and tees to make the course more challenging (from par 61 to 70), but my score improved from +16 to +15 despite the difficulty.
- The wind became a factor as well the 2nd round, but I chose the best discs accordingly and my shots were still good despite the stronger wind.
- The 2nd round, we were behind the pro card. They took a very long time for each shot on each hole. We had to wait a long time on every hole.
- Despite me being the only woman playing today, I still felt I had something to prove as I needed to catch the eye of Larry & Kathy (potential sponsors). Consequently, at the end of the tournament, Larry pulled me aside and offered me ambassor sponsorship. I accepted and got my 1st Essential Discs shirt. During the award ceremony, Larry announced to everyone that I was Essential Disc's newest ambassador.
- I was so very proud of Victoria, not only for her good scores, but also for completing such a difficult course in very challenging conditions, but doing so without complaining.
- This was a good tournament to preceed Victoria & I going to Nationals.
