All the registered pro women in NC were in the same tournament
this weekend! Elaine, Michelle, Victoria and myself were playing
and Paige once again stepped up and played in the open. We were
playing in Zebulon, NC.I had not played that course since the
2010 Great 8 with Bob. So, it was like playing it blind. Great
course though, very challenging at times.
After round 1, I was only 2 strokes away from Elaine, but Michelle
was only 2 behind me. Round two, Michelle and I didn't do very
well and the distance grew between Elaine and I, but Michelle
and I stayed very close. I have learned from the past –
NEVER discount Michelle Horn!! When she is on, she can be unstoppable!
Round 3, my best round was also Michelle's best round. So now
Michelle goes into the 4th round with a one stroke lead on me.
Elaine still has a 12 stroke lead on me. So it was battle for
2nd. Paige and Victoria were close together for 4th/5th. After
6 holes into the last round, Michelle climbed to a 5 stroke lead.
I thought it was a goner. I had several bad shots and ob's and
Michelle was hitting everything right. Then hole 7 happened. It's
a sidearm hole, with a mando and Michelle went into the creek
twice. With her 6 and me getting a 3 on that hole, the game changed.
I stayed on and Michelle let that hole get to her. I finally got
the birdie on hole 16 that last round.
Other than the 2nd round, I was very pleased with my play. I
got to throw the lighter weight Star Tern and was pleased with
the outcome. Coming in 2nd felt good. One day I will give Elaine
the chase that she's after!
