Victoria's Notes:
We had a disc golf tournamnet. We played a round and some competitions. I won the round and putting. My friend Anna won the accuracy and driving. On the round, I shot a 47 and Anna shot a 52. They did a raffle and we got picked first and got another disc golf basket. We also got a hat and a shirt. They both looked cool and I picked the hat. The person that directed the tournament was Sarah Stanhope. We were the Girl's 10-and-under competitors for that day. I have another friend that played in the 11-13 year olds.

Debbie's Notes:
Once again we head down to Van de Mar, one of my favorite disc golf courses, for the 2012 SC Junior's Championships. This time I was Christian's caddy. He did great during the round. I had to keep him on a short leash, but he did well. A lot of the other boys were not so good (behavior wise). There were 9 in his division and he tied for 1st place, so we had to go into overtime...
The younger boys were playing the round from shortened tees, but during the playoff they played from the actual tee. So here we go off to hole number 1. Christian throws a great drive. Cole throws his off to the right. Cole's next shot gets him slightly ahead of Christian's first shot. Christian's second throw was another perfect fairway drive. Cole's third shot was up to the left a little. It's Christian's 3rd shot... I knew where Cole was in three and what his 4th shot would look like (about 50ft putt) so I told Christian to lay it up... throw it to the bottom of the pin. He looked at me as if to say 'WHAT?!?' I knew he wanted to go for it on his third and I've seen him make it at this distance, but I told him NO... lay it up. Sudden death becomes like match play and I knew the probability of Cole making that 50 ft putt was pretty low. So Christian did as he was told, begrudgingly I think. He layed it up and he was sitting 8 ft from the basket in three. Cole missed his 4th shot and Christian putted out for a 4 on the hole and won the tournament round for his age division. I am so proud of him for listening to me and he played great.
Tori won her round and the putting competition for her age group. Christian also won the distance competition for his division.
The other highlight for this event was the raffle! They had an assortment of really cool raffle prizes. I bought about $20 worth of tickets. My number was drawn 1st. Really?!? So I had first dibs at all the loot. I chose the travel basket!! We also had two more numbers drawn, which I got a cool 'Team Innova' shirt and Tori picked out a nice blue/black innova hat for Bob.
So once again the Scott family came out like bandits at the SC Juniors tournament. Can't wait til next year!
Bob's Notes:
As we were short on volunteers, I offered to help out and walk with a group. This left Victoria to caddy for herself, but she was OK with that. It turns out that I was put with the 10-13 year old boys, all but one of them had significant tournament experience, and 2 of the boys' fathers were walking with them the whole day. One of the fathers was even a regular tournament director I heard. Needless to say, I wasn't too thrilled about the idea of driving that far so I could caddy for my daughter, then end up walking around the whole day with this more-than-capable group, while my daughter was caddying & scorekeeping for herself a few holes back. I was able to work it out with the father & TD, then caddy for Victoria after a few holes though.
We had many 'very young' participants this year so the 'closer tees' were very close. It was a bit awkward to have Victoria 'drive' the majority of the course from a distance where I would break out my putter. Regardless of the age breakdowns next year, we'll have Victoria play in a division using the normal teepads.
For the competitions after the round, Debbie & I switched, so I was with Christian. Christian had a tough time with the putting competition because he is literally better at 20-30 feet than he is at 10-15 feet (must get that from me). With the strong wind in the open field, he didn't get a chance to advance to the farther distances where he would have done well.
Christian got 3rd in the accuracy competition, but was literally less than 2 inches behind 1st & 2nd and it took several minutes for them to accurately measure it because it was so close. In the distance competition, Christian was far outdriving the other boys, but they were counting roller distance instead of in-air distance, so this was actually pretty close as well. Several of the boys just threw their disc vertically down the hill they were throwing off of and some of them were reaching 150' (though 148' was rolling). Fortunately, Christian's white leopard was still the farthest out, even after having hit a soccer goal that slower it down.
We celebrated a great day of family disc golf with our annual outing to Copper River Grill. This time, we were fortunate enough to be joined by Steve & Alex Lambert.
