Scott Family Disc Golf - Clinic Review

USDGC EDGE Clinic Instructor - Rock Hill, NC - October 1-3, 2014

It's teaching time again! The USDGC is such a special event and this is my 4th year teaching the children that come in from nearby schools. Through the Educational Disc Golf Experience we are able to teach all the elements of the sport. We have putting, approaching, driving, specialty shot and ring of fire stations set up. My specialty is the approach. I teach the kids the four basics of a solid approach. First, I establish what they will be aiming at when they are away from the basket. This is what I call my “easy circle.” Steve Lambert came up with this a few years back and I've been teaching it ever since. Once the kids determine the circle around the basket where they should layup into then we move them back. I then show them the grip, stance and motion of a backhand throw. We practice several times, then I let them compete against one another. After I've got a few winners, then I let them take on me for the championship! We have lots of fun and the majority of the kids get better after each throw. One day I hope to play in the USDGC, but until then I'll be happy to teach.
